2023 marks the 350th anniversary of the birth and 300th anniversary of the death of the most important personality of humanistic culture in the Romanian space – the philosopher, historian, writer, composer, politician and scientist Dimitrie Cantemir, precursor of the Romanian Enlightenment and acclaimed personality of the universal culture.
The importance of this great creative and political spirit for the entire European space, as well as the opportunity to celebrate in the same year the two defining dates of his biography, turn the year 2023 into a true “Cantemir year” for Romanian culture, offering an ideal opportunity to research and highlight its influence in the evolution of Romanian culture.
This project represents a historic first for Romanian music, being the first time that artists from Romania perform around the Earth in a single concert tour. But before this documentary record, the main purpose of the entire endeavor is to illustrate, as concretely as possible, the universal encompassing of Romanian culture starting from one of its most valuable personalities in history.
Among the personalities from the Romanian space who made the transition from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era, Dimitrie Cantemir represents a special figure due to his European and Oriental openness at the same time but also due to the fact that he harmonized his qualities as a man of vast culture with those of a politician and military strategist.
